Wat Pichaisongkram
Wat Pichaisongkram was an ancient private monastery built around 1357 when Ayutthaya was first established as the capital of Siam. After the fall of Ayutthaya, the troops of Phraya Wachira Prakarn assembled at Wat Pichai in the evening and drank an oath of allegiance in the presence of the principle Buddha image and prayed for the victory over the Burmese. The following morning, they crossed the Pasak River and successfully drove out the Burmese invaders. The temple is located next door to the Krunsri River Hotel, is 300 metres from the railway station and has an excellent jetty, making it an ideal embarkation / disembarkation point in Ayutthaya.
